Before I get into this post, my apologies for not being on here in 2 days. I had homework due last night and I am finished with it now, so I can work on this site and post what I’ve researched lately. I have done a lot of research on Tune and Welch’s Grape Jelly. I’ll post both of them on this post. Also, thanks to the new people joining this site and I officially welcome you.
WELCH’S GRAPE JELLY
This jelly has been in peoples pantries and in their cub bards for a long time and without knowing what’s in this awesome tasting jelly, you couldn’t ever decide if it still needed to be there (right). I found one big additive in this jelly that is in a lot of other jellied food items and some drinks. So many people spread this on their toast in the mornings without really knowing what they’re spreading on their toast. Does that make sense to you?
I really am thankful to gain the knowledge and understanding of what’s in our foods and what to stay away from. I hope to list every single food/drink item on this site, so you can always look back at the items and determine for yourselves if you want that in your home or in your stomach. When I think of Jelly, I think of grapes and sugar, right? I no when me and my dad made grape jelly every year before he passed away, I helped smash them and can the jelly and put it up every year. Along with tomatoes, cucumber relish, and squash. I will list my mom’s recipe for squash relish on here, maybe tomorrow night, it’s so good.
The active ingredients in Welch’s Grape Jelly isn’t as bad as a lot of food products I’ve researched on this site, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have bad stuff in it. I will list all the ingredients in the jelly below and you can see what’s in the tasty treat.
High Fructose Corn Syrup
That’s it, see not to many ingredients and yet it’s not just grapes and sugar in this little jar of Welch’s Grape Jelly. Do you see anything catching your eye or do they all look like normal additives in all our foods we consume. I see 2 different types of Corn Syrup and That one additive (Sodium Citrate). I promised there would be one additive that would stand out in the research I did. Why is it that we like jelly on our toast in the mornings, Is it because it tastes like grapes or the sweetness of the jelly that gives way to our taste buds?
I will break all these additives and chemicals down, so you will no what you are eating and if you find additives in the post that are in other food/drinks you buy and consume regularly, then you might want to start buying other items with healthier additives or no additives at all in them.
CORN SYRUP- HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP-One table spoon of corn syrup equals to 16 grams of sugar, do you no why there’s so much corn syrup and High Fructose corn syrup in our foods? It’s because the cost is way cheaper than regular sugar. These two additives go hand in hand with each other. They are way sweeter than sugar and the UK and other nations have banned the use of them, for their hidden high sugar contents.
Research has found that both of these additives are 10 times more addicting than sugar. When my mom baked my birthday cakes in the past, she would use honey in place of any sugars or the corn syrup. Honey is sweet and also has tons of antioxidants in it. When you need something sweet and you need corn syrup/use honey instead for your health.
FRUIT PECTIN- The only side effects I found for this is bloating and stomach cramps. I also found out that the food companies could use this additive instead of the gelatin ( which has animal parts in it), for everything gelatin is used for. So that begs to question why are food companies not using Fruit Pectin/verse/gelatin.
Fruit Pectin is found in all fruits naturally and when you mix Pectin and sugar you get the gel found in the food products. Also, Pectin is great for Inflammation and arthritis. This also has fiber characteristics and can cause your stool to become loose. Overall this isn’t bad and could be useful in replacing bad additives.
CITRIC ACID- This occurs naturally in citrus fruits, from what I’ve seen if you aren’t allergic to fruits, then it’s perfectly OK to eat and is great in antioxidants.
SODIUM CITRATE- The most common use for this drug, it’s used to treat a condition called metabolic acidosis. Can cause Muscle Spasms, Elevated Sodium. Here are the side effects: weakness, numbness, diarrhea, dizziness. After reading so much on this chemical drug, I think overall it does cause your acid levels to become reduced in your urine and without really knowing how much they add to our foods, no one can really say yes or no to the side effects unless you have them. Then I would go to my doctor and have them look in their medical book on the additive you’re having issues with.
If we were giving out grades for the products I research on here, this one would get a C+, the grape jelly has some good and bad in it. It’s not like the Rice Krispi Treats that I posted about the other day. If we as a human race on this awesome green and blue planet will open our eyes to the dangers in our foods, then we may just live out our lives one day in the near future without the chemicals in the foods we consume.

CANNED TUNA- DOLLAR GENERAL BRAND
I will add a note to this post about the tuna I researched also tonight in this post because this is the cheapest tuna and also the healthiest I’ve seen anywhere. Here’s the ingredients to this 5oz can of tuna. + Light Tuna (scombridae), water, Vegetable broth, (Peas,Carrots, Celery Extract), Salt. That’s all that’s in the can and the serving size per can is 2. The salt is the biggest thing with 280mg per serving. I cut down a lot on salt with draining the juice and then placing water in the can and draining it again.
That’s the easiest way I have found to drain most of the salt out of the can. The tuna tastes better than name brand tuna and it’s way chunkier than regular tuna. I bet your wondering, if the can says light tuna then what is the s-word right, well here’s what the s-word is: Because sorry to shock you it’s in the family of tuna, but not tuna.
For the longest time I couldn’t figure out why the can said light tuna, how can you have a light tuna. I was thinking did the tuna not weigh much or something in that nature. Why in the world wouldn’t the place that makes the tuna fish put on the can light tuna, well now I no.
The Scombridae is in the tuna fish family with around 55 other species of fish. The only thing that got to me was, if it’s not tuna then why call it tuna. What if someone was allergic to the Scombridae and they ate this and died or got very sick. The can says tuna. Looks like that company would lose in court, because to me that’s unethical to sell something under false name of something else. Either way it’s really good and I would recommend it to anyone that likes tuna and isn’t allergic to Scombridae.
This brought to mind about me being in the grocery store the other day and I see some crab meat for $2 and I purchased the package thinking I can’t wait to get home and have some nice crab. Where I live, it’s not a regular thing to have crab anywhere. So when I get home, I break open the package and It states it’s fully cooked crab meat. I heat it up and taste it. WOW, for sure wasn’t crab. I read the package and it was Pollock. The package says crab meat, ingredients say Pollock. Just another example of the package saying one thing and the ingredients saying something else.
WHAT A GREAT PICTURE, OUR EARTH. SO MANY PEOPLE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT AND DESTROY THE WONDERFUL THINGS ABOUT IT. WE CAN’T EVER STOP FIGHTING FOR WHAT WE BELIEVE IN, THEN WHEN IT’S ALL DONE AND THE DUST CLEARS, WE WILL KNOW WE STOOD FOR SOMETHING AND WE DID IT TOGETHER AS ONE VOICE FOR CHANGE IN THE CHEMICALS IN OUR FOODS/DRINKS.
